The students were absolutely captivated by the animated reading of his stories! We were thrilled with the presentation and the kids are still raving about it. I am inspired by some of the ideas [Timm] mentioned afterward as well!
Inspiring children and teachers all at the same time – I think this really is [his] calling.
The 12th Ottawa Guides recently welcomed storyteller Timm Holmes to our meeting. It was awesome! Timm collaborated with the girls to write their own story in a hilarious, interactive way. Two weeks later, all attendees were provided a customized bookmark that summarizes their story. Worth every penny. I couldn’t recommend him enough!

The Start A Story workshop was absolutely amazing! Timm brought so much energy into the classroom that our students could hardly wait to get involved. He inspired many of our students to see writing as a fun experience, rather than a chore. Timm’s passion for writing and creating has definitely sparked many of our future authors.
During Timm’s hour long visit with my grade fives he was amazingly able to connect with each and every one of my students – even my reluctant writers. Timm was down to earth and approachable. His engaging manner got students excited about writing and allowed them to see writing as something that is possible for every one of them and not some daunting impossible task.
My kids wanted to hear more and more of his books! So entertaining and inspiring!
I highly recommend attending an event with Timm if you get a chance! Such a lively program and he really knows how to work with the kids and keep them engaged!

We had the pleasure of having Timm Holmes come to our school on Friday to read his new book, Splash, Fin, Toothy Grin! to our kindergarten classes. At the last minute, he graciously agreed to have our grade 4 learning buddies join us for the story in the library. Despite the large range of ages in the audience, every child was captivated and engaged from the moment he began sharing until the last page of the book was finished!
One child, with sensory processing difficulties, was becoming visibly upset by the noise created during the audience participation part of the story reading. This reaction could have completely derailed the experience for the child and his peers; however, Timm deescalated the situation quickly by reassuring the child in a quiet voice, offering a seat at the front near him (which the child gladly accepted) and creating a signal for the child to use if things got too loud. Within seconds, the story reading was back on track and everyone enjoyed the experience. I would definitely recommend a visit from Timm. His passion for story telling and natural charisma with students of all ages, creates a sense of wonder and excitement around books that is so important to foster in children.
This is an incredible book about a mysterious peanut butter loving dragon. My son is nearly 2yrs old and after one read he keeps saying “dragon, dragon, dragon”, “new book new book new book”. This book is great for children of all ages. It’s simple in its story, deep in its heart, and a friendly adventure for kids. This is How To Train Your Peanut Butter Dragon, love it.

Timm’s writers workshop had a class of Kindergarten students thoroughly engaged in the writing process. Timm guided the students through a wonderful mixture of modelled writing and hands on activities where students spent time illustrating their story. It was sheer excitement as the students proudly worked together to produce their class story! Children were exclaiming, “We are writers!”
It was a great experience to get the students excited about writing stories!
Timm Holmes entered my classroom with a splash! He immediately engaged the students with his varying voices and enticing intonation while capturing their imagination at the same time. The students giggled their way through Peanut Butter & Dragon listening to the adventures of Malcolm and Cooper. We look forward to hearing the next adventure!

I know the new book is out today (hooray!) but I wanted to share how much the stuffy dragons at our house still like to hear about those sandwiches!

Our Beaver Scouts had a great time last night during Ottawa author Timm Holmes’ Start A Story workshop at our colony sleepover. Some very creative ideas were shared by the youth to create they very own story “Out of This World” about electric eating aliens and the Beaver Scouts that would befriend them!

Every student had an opportunity to voice a comment, question or opinion on where the story should go. There were multiple entry points for students at various levels and for those new to the English language. I really enjoyed how we worked together on the beginning and end before constructing the middle part of the story. I liked how students were tasked with visualizing their own illustrations to evoke more details to build a stronger “middle”. You were fantastic at keeping our group focused and on-task and patient as some learners roamed the room or stretched out on the floor. It was wonderful to see each student participating in a way that was most comfortable to them and how open and inclusive your program is to enable others to create a more personal story on their own time stemming from our class collaboration. I had a student come to me at the end of the day today saying they were going home to write their own story tonight! The post-workshop activities are greatly appreciated!

Timm Holmes came into read his second book, Splash, Fin, Toothy Grin!, to my kindergarten class. The students loved the interactive approach to Timm’s read aloud. His story kept the students hooked and excited to hear what would happen next. They loved the game Splash, Fin, Toothy Grin, many of them were still playing it throughout the rest of the day. Highly recommended, he truly does Excite, Inspire, & Celebrate.
A new reader was thrilled by the book…especially by seeing her name (and the unique way her parents had spelled it)…she was amazed at how you knew how to spell it…she has set up many of her Beanies as ‘bodyguards’ for the book…and her parents are absolutely thrilled that their child is thrilled…

Timm’s workshop promised to “excite, inspire and celebrate” and it did not disappoint! The positive energy in the room surrounding the creation of their very own story was palpable from start to finish. The sharing of ideas and collaborative writing and illustrating empowered so many of our reluctant writers. They were inspired to keep writing long after the workshop was over. In fact, the celebration continued for many weeks, as they eagerly worked on a special thank you story for Timm. It was a pleasure to watch a whole new generation of future authors share in Timm’s passion and excitement for story writing.
Timm made the whole experience inviting for the children and they were all engaged. They all felt like they had contributed to one piece of the story, it was a ton of fun!
Timm is a fun and energetic presenter who really connects with young children. The stories that he tells his own boys and now has written down to share with all kids are both sweet and hilarious. Our Kindergarten class loved hearing the story read by the author himself and had a great time learning to play “Splash, Fin, Toothy Grin” as an exciting end to the presentation. Thanks so much for sharing with us! We loved it!
Took the Bee to his reading last weekend at Chapters and she loved it! Timm really knows how to make reading interactive for kids. Totally worth taking your little people!

Timm is great! Did a story creating workshop with him last month. Three weeks later, all the kids got their own book with the story they created. He was conscious about ensuring all the kids had input, consensus building was encouraged, and clear direction about non-violence was given. He was a lot of fun.

The students really enjoyed both of your books! Your animated storytelling coupled with student involvement made for such a fun literary experience. I caught some of our students playing Splash, Fin, Toothy Grin later that afternoon!
My son was thrilled to see that their story became an actual book. Since your workshop he’s been putting together his own stories, whether it’s just one page or multiple. Thank you for helping children’s minds grow all while having so much fun!

Timm spent a morning in our classroom and my class was thrilled and inspired! They were glued to his every word as he guided them through his writing process and read two of his books. His genuine talent for engaging students of any age was wonderful to watch. Timm is truly a gem and should be welcomed into every primary classroom.

Very animated! Kids loved his presentation. Shared his passion for writing even at a young age and how he illustrates his books through the magic of computer editing!
Timm came to Sawmill Creek E.S. and gave a phenomenal presentation to our kindergarten and primary classes. Students were engaged and captivated by Timm’s story telling and pictures. He was able to keep the group hanging on his every word.
The booking process was super easy to navigate and Timm communicates clearly and promptly. We will be looking forward to his next presentation.
